Today is definitely a Monday Blue type of weather, but regardless Happy Monday which means another Manicure Monday. For the manicure, it features this blue tone polka dot nail lacquer from Maybelline's PolkaDots Collection called "Blue Marks The Spot" #95. This nail lacquer looks gorgeous on the bottle where you can clearly see all the different sizes of black and white polka dot speckles. It gives off a shiny marble-like effect.

First apply a clear base coat to prevent your nails from yellowing and to help your nail color last longer. With one sweep, paint the first line of nail polish up the center of your nail starting from the base to the tip. For the cleanest look, be sure to leave a small space at the base of the nail. Then apply color to the rest of the nail.![]() |

This blue is #90 called "Blue Marks The Spot" |
The concept and idea sounds like a fun nail lacquer and the packaging is so pretty thus I had to picked one up to give it a try. My favorite shade from this collection is the teal green but I only saw pink and blue at my local RiteAid so I got the blue shade. This retails for $3.99 at RiteAid which I think is decent compare to some other drugstore brands like CoverGirl and L'Oreal. Prices can vary from each store, but I havent seem this line in my local CVS or Walgreens yet.
Consistency/Texture/Performance
Just like other non-traditional nail lacquer like glitters, sparkles, it is on the runny side, definitely not thick or opaque. Since this is a polka dot lacquer, it has mixture of big and smaller round speckles. These speckles are easily transfer on to the nail when applying and definitely visible after one coat. It is definitely buildable with another coat since one coat alone is too sheer. However, you cannot get the desirable result like the one shown on the ad even if you apply 2, 3, or even 4 coats. In order to see the same blue as the bottle, you would need to apply a solid base color (either white or same color blue) first. This method holds true for many glittery nail lacquers and neon shades as well. I should have known better but I want to see how well this nail lacquer performs on its own without having to use a base color.
Final Verdict:
If you are nail junkie (like me) who likes to try out different and new polishes, you can give this a try. Performance wise, it is pretty good when applied with a base color. I do like the overall look of this over the many glittery nail polishes out there. It is definitely a very fun but not over the top flashy like neons and glitters. Just like glittery nail polish, this is also a pain to remove all the small speckles. If this is a major no no for you, then you should pass on this. However, if you always wanted to try a fun and non-traditional polish but dont like over the top flashy polishes, this can be a good choice since the finish on this is more tone down and subtle.
