Pieces to Wear Now and Later
As Summer is coming to an end, Fall is just around the corner. It can be tricky for many of us when it comes to dressing in between the "still hot" summer to the "getting cooler" fall weathers. For those who love and live in your summer dresses all season long, well, don't put them away just yet. You can make good use of your beloved summer dresses and turn them into key Fall pieces. For now, when the weather is still balmy, go bare-legged with sandals or flats and when it gets cooler later, throw on tights and booties to stay warm. All you need are 3 key pieces, which are blazers (or cardigans), pumps or booties (or knee high boots) and tights. These 3 pieces will style nicely with all your summer dresses to transition into the Fall.
Here are some OOTD examples on how I transitioned my summer pieces (taken from last year)

top: NY&Co, skirt: GAP, cardigan: GAP, leather boots: Kohls |
Jacket: H&M, boots: Old Navy, Bag: H&M, scarf: H&M, shorts: H&M

leather jacket: Banana Republic, skirt: Banana Republic, leather boots: Kohls, bag: Express |
This same concept can be applied to styling your summer shorts as well like I did here in these past OOTD's:

Here are my picks of 3 classic stables for the Fall. All 3 items shown here are from GAP outlet store. There was one more dress (my fav one) that I wanted to feature here as well but lost the photos I took which is a bummer.
This dress here is a classic nautical piece that is so crisp, preppy, and youthful. Despite the sporty look of the nautical print, the simple silhouette make it wearable for work when styled with the right pieces like a blazer. I love how pockets were incorporated here which is always a bonus =). For now, this dress can be styled with simple black pumps and a classic satchel like I did here to keep things simple. You can always add in a skinny belt for those who wanted more shape. When weather gets cooler, just add in tights and boots to keep warm.
This is another great piece for the Fall season. Don't let the short sleeve fool you, this dress is made of a thicker cotton material that can still keep you warm. There are 3 key things about this dress which I think are great classics that will work for most body type. First is the nautical stripe which is a print that will never go out of style. It pairs well with any solid items or even other prints where it wont overpower each other. Second is the gray color which is a neutral that will work with most shades either be bright, bold, or other neutrals. Last is the shape and silhouette of this dress where it has a relax fit that wont restrict your movement and more forgiving than a fitted cut. The cinched in waist serve the purpose of giving the illusion of a smaller waist. This dress can be worn now with pumps like I did here which can later be transitioned to the Fall with black tights and pumps or boots.
A trench in a neutral color like this beige one is a classic stable to have in your wardrobe. This will make a great addition to all your outfits in both the Fall and Spring seasons. Since it is such a classic style in a neutral color, it pretty much goes with everything and anything. It goes well with any dresses/skirts around knee length where some part of the dress peaks out. The length of this trench is great for women on the petite side (like me) that won't overwhelm our height. What I love about this particular trench is the added hood which will come in so handy on rainy or windy days.
Please ignore the stupid sensor on the hood
Hope you find my styling ideas and picks helpful and give you a better guide on how to dress for the Fall.
